The COSMETOMICS platform will develop characterization tools for tomorrow's products

Safety and performance of cosmetics

The world's leading resource center in perfumery and cosmetics, driving force behind a leading French sector on the international market, the Cosmetic Valley competitiveness cluster today embodies "made in France" in the field of perfumery and cosmetics: innovation, safety and product performance, traceability, respect for the environment.

Dedicated to cosmetic test and measurement issues, the Shared Cosmetics Innovation Platform aims to help companies in the sector to innovate and demonstrate the safety and performance of French brand products.

Specialized in Characterization, Product Optimization and Diagnosis at Different Scales (CODDE), the first \"open lab\" in the Paris region will open in Cergy-Pontoise in June 2013.

The signing of the framework contract for the COSMÉTOMIQUE platform will take place in Paris

April 16, 2013, at the Cosmetic Valley Pavilion of the In-Cosmetics show in the presence of:

  • François GERMINET, President of the University of Cergy Pontoise
  • Jean DAILLANT, Managing Director of Synchrotron SOLEIL
  • Marc-Antoine JAMET, President of Cosmetic Valley
  • Elian LATI, BIO-EC Director

Bringing together public and private players within cosmetic platforms

Manufactured on French territory, exported all over the world, the products of the French cosmetic perfumery sector are backed by values linked to internationally recognized know-how. Among them, the safety and performance of cosmetic products, which are two essential values of the France brand. The growing complexity of the formulation of cosmetic products today requires new technological tools and advanced know-how that require collaboration with university laboratories. While in many countries such as Japan or Korea, cosmetics companies can have real collaborations with universities, the situation is more delicate in France where there is no university laboratory dedicated to cosmetics. The ambition of the Cosmetic Valley is therefore to unite public and private players within cosmetic platforms accessible to companies in the perfumery-cosmetics sector.

“Open labs” to promote the development of new technological tools

The objective of the COSMÉTOMIQUE platform is to create a permanent management infrastructure combining the provision of services, research, transmission of knowledge and intellectual property around various R&D activities. This structure will be based on several platforms, research centers and complementary and specialized companies around the issues of measurement and objectification. It will make it possible to intensify collaborations between industrial players and academic research and will offer SMEs the means to develop new ingredients and products by allowing companies access to the latest innovations via \"open lab\" in the compliance with regulations and intellectual property. These \"open labs\" will promote the development of new measuring instruments or test techniques and will provide companies with the means to accelerate the transition from design to development with a view to marketing their innovations. . The first “open lab” specializes in Characterization, Product Optimization and Diagnosis at Different Scales. It brings together a University (Cergy Pontoise), a Very Large Research Infrastructure (SOLEIL), an SME (BioEC), and the Cosmetic Valley competitiveness cluster.

An internationally recognized platform

Similar synergies will be initiated with the two other regions of the competitiveness cluster: the Center Region, which brings together many skills in measuring product performance, and the Upper Normandy Region, which brings together many skills in measuring product safety. . The objective of the COSMETOMICS platform is to federate and coordinate all the know-how around a clearly identifiable, internationally recognized center which will offer techniques for characterization, detection, diagnosis, imaging and innovative analytical solutions based on a multidisciplinary approach ranging from chemistry and physics, to biology, through application engineering to life sciences and well-being, for cosmetics and safety.

The actors of the first “Open Lab”

The University of Cergy-Pontoise - www.u-cergy.fr

The University of Cergy-Pontoise (UCP) is a new university in Île-de-France, created in 1991. Multidisciplinary, it is made up of 5 UFR (training and research unit) - law, economics and management, languages and international studies, arts and humanities, science and technology -, a university institute of technology (IUT) certified ISO 9001, an institute for preparation for general administration (IPAG) and a university institute for the training of masters (IUFM). Key figures 2011-2012: 15,000 students / 263 training courses, including 39 degrees, 107 masters, including 60 professionals, 40 professional degrees, 8 DUTs, 3 doctoral schools / 22 research laboratories including 8 associated with the CNRS, 1 federation of research dedicated to innovation and materials, 2 facilities of excellence, 6 laboratories of excellence, 1 Institute of Excellence in carbon-free energies (IEED).

The SOLEIL Synchrotron - www.synchrotron-soleil.fr

The Synchrotron SOLEIL, French national source of synchrotron light, is a center for the study of living matter and complex materials. A subsidiary of the CEA and the CNRS, SOLEIL is a player in scientific research of French excellence. SOLEIL also supports research and innovation projects carried out by external teams from public laboratories and companies, within the framework of calls for scientific projects, services, scientific or technological research partnerships and transfers of knowledge (know-how, technologies). SOLEIL's multi-technical analysis platform, made up of 29 synchrotron beamlines, is easily accessible (24 hours a day, 6 days a week and 210 days a year), quickly and in complete confidentiality by all types of companies (JEI, SME, ETI and large groups) interested in high-performance analysis equipment and the multidisciplinary skills of scientists.

The Bio EC laboratory - www.bio-ec.fr

Created in 1998, the BIO-EC laboratory is a research center dedicated to professionals in the cosmetic and dermatological sector. Its primary vocation is to respond to new needs in terms of objectification. The laboratory has developed a new biological model and specific and innovative methods, adapted to a reliable and relevant evaluation of the activity of cosmetic products. He provides his services in France and in more than 15 countries internationally and actively participates in several research projects.

The Cosmetic Valley - www.cosmetic-valley.com

The COSMETIC VALLEY competitiveness cluster is today the world's leading resource center for perfumery and cosmetics. Driving force of a leading French sector on the international market, COSMETIC VALLEY today embodies tomorrow's "made in France" in terms of perfumery and cosmetics: innovation, product safety, traceability, respect for the environment.
