Digging deeper to rebuild better
The House of Cosmetics in Chartres is much more than a simple architectural project: it is a place where past, present and future meet . Located opposite the majestic Chartres Cathedral, the future House is part of a historical, cultural and economic continuity.
✨ This new hub, dedicated to innovation and transmission, will showcase the excellence of the cosmetics industry worldwide, while drawing on a rich heritage revealed by exceptional archaeological excavations.
At the heart of the excavation, a veritable layering of historical periods has been unearthed. On a 500-square-meter site, archaeologists have made numerous discoveries:
📍First physical traces of the ancient fortifications of Autricum, a Gallo-Roman town in the 4th and 5th centuries
📍 Foundations of an ancient house abandoned following a fire
📍 Cavities deep in the ground
📍 And even a cake mold depicting Ulysses and the sirens on a boat
The time has now come to analyze these finds, within the Archaeology services of Chartres Métropole.
From now on, these geological strata bear witness to the site's many uses, from Gallo-Roman times to the present day, including the Middle Ages. This strongly echoes the very essence of cosmetics: a universal, timeless expertise that draws on ancient heritage to innovate and look towards the future.
Thus, the House of Cosmetics rises on this land steeped in history. The future Cosmétopée garden will take root in this courtyard where each stone tells a chapter of the past, nourishing the future. A perfect alchemy of memory, innovation, and transmission.
