COSMETIC VALLEY

Discover the creation of the first network entirely dedicated to the perfume and cosmetics industry
COSMETIC VALLEY

OUR STORY

From the 1970s onwards, the development of the perfume and cosmetics sector encouraged many renowned brands and their suppliers (very small and small businesses) to set up their factories an hour south and west of Paris. An industrial network gradually developed.
1994: Birth of the SME association
It all began with the observation of a handful of entrepreneurs gathered around Jean-Luc Ansel, who wanted to foster collaboration and work together through short supply chains. An association was created in Chartres with the support of local authorities, with Jean-Paul Guerlain as its first President.
1996: “Cosmetic Valley France”, the export brand of the sector
The association decided to support its SMEs in their international export efforts by organizing a collective pavilion at the Hong Kong trade fair. Bonds strengthened between the business leaders, who then realized the unique nature of this initiative: a kind of Silicon Valley for the beauty industry! The idea took hold, and the SMEs chose the "Cosmetic Valley France" brand as the flagship of "Made in France" on the international stage. Its logo would be the peony, a symbol of beauty in Asia.
2005: Innovation at the heart of the strategy
Designated a competitiveness cluster, Cosmetic Valley now integrates research and training into its strategy. Cosmetic Valley initiates collaborative projects between companies and public laboratories, and fosters the development of training programs tailored to industry needs. This work lays the groundwork for the recognition of cosmetic research.
2014: A national sector strategy
At the request of companies in the sector, the French government and local authorities have entrusted Cosmetic Valley with the mission of coordinating the national ecosystem to strengthen its position as a global leader. This is being achieved through the implementation of a sector-specific action plan, the development of the network in mainland France and overseas territories, and the opening of Cosmetic Valley offices in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Normandy regions.
2016: an international network
Building on 20 years of international experience and having helped create cosmetic industry associations across 5 continents, Cosmetic Valley, together with its partners, is launching the Global Cosmetics Cluster. This tool will support the international development of businesses.
2023: Launch of the first sector embassy: FFCE (French Fragrance and Cosmetics Embassy) China
2028: International House of Cosmetics
An exceptional venue will soon open its doors in Chartres. A hub serving businesses and regions within the sector, it will foster the exchange of ideas, skills, and expertise, and serve as a catalyst for creativity and innovation. The general public will be immersed in the excellence of French-made products, the sector's innovations, and emerging trends.
